Massage Therapy

SCREENS, STRAINS & STRESS

Sitting at a computer all day or staring at your phone can be brutal on your body, as can stress and anxiety.  Physical trauma can obviously be painful, but so can emotional trauma.  In short, anything physical or emotional that puts a strain on your body can cause pain and discomfort.  Massage can loosen and soften tight areas, relieve tension, and calm the nervous system.  Treatment can decrease pain and increase feelings of relaxation and well-being.

If you have ongoing stresses or triggers in your life causing ongoing discomfort, I recommend regular treatments.  Your body will thank you!

Face Treatments

JAW PAIN & HEADACHES

There are 43 muscles in your face.  Why wouldn't you get it treated like the rest of your body?  Ask me about including the face in your next appointment.

There are both massage and craniosacral techniques that can work wonders for jaw pain and headaches.  Let's see what works for you!

Instead of massage oil, I use a series of lavender-infused skincare products on the face.  Check out the serum, moisturizer and toner from Hereward Farm for product details and read my Lavender Page for information on the benefits for your skin.

Bodywork for Babies

Believe it or not, babies have tension in their little bodies! Think of their tight position in the uterus and then the way they are squished even more during birth. Sometimes that tightness sticks around after they are born, causing discomfort, inability to sleep, digestive problems and even head shape abnormalities and torticollis.

I will do the gentlest of techniques to release those tight spots and I can teach you to do some at home as well.

Deep Tissue Massage and Mindfulness

My Two Cents:

Every body experiences massage pressure differently and it has nothing to do with the size, strength or fitness of the person.  I'm sure some of my clients would describe my typical massage as relatively deep.  I'm sure some wouldn't.  The exact same pressure will feel different to different people.  So if you're wondering if I do deep tissue massage, the answer will depend on you.

My hands are strong and intuitive and I can generally gauge necessary pressure, but I am not the right therapist for folks that want to get pummeled for the entire treatment, every treatment.  These are the clients with the "no pain, no gain" mentality.

I get it.  I understand it.  But I don't do it.

I believe, with over two decades of experience to support it, that painful pressure is not only unnecessary, but ineffective a lot of the time.  If your nervous system is fighting my pressure by tensing up, your muscles will not loosen and get relief.  I urge you to try a more mindful approach.  I suggest a quiet (no chatting) massage where you are tuned in to your body and focused on breathing and being present.  If we can dial down your nervous system, it will help relax and soften those muscles.  Similar to how you get a lot more satisfaction out of a meal if you pay attention to eating it (versus shovelling it in your mouth while you're driving or working at your computer) you may be pleasantly surprised at how impactful a mindful massage can be.
